Jesus Christ Crown of thorns
According to the Gospels, a crown of thorns was violently placed on the head of Jesus during the events that led Him to the Calvary and His crucifixion. The crown of thorns is one of the instruments used to torture Jesus, which they placed on His head in order to inflict pain but also to ridicule Him before the eyes of all those who until that moment praised Him. The creation of the icon of Jesus with the crown of thorns possibly appeared for the first time after the construction of the Sistine Chapel, while the crown of thorns symbolizes the Passion of Jesus and the last period of His life on earth, which begins with His ceremonial entrance in Jerusalem and ends with his Crucifixion and His Burial on Good Friday.
